Julie Hennigan Merlino
New to Charleston from New York City, Julie Merlino brings a background of fine dining and management experience to the Lowcountry in her role as general manager of The Macintosh.
From 2011 to 2015, Merlino, a graduate of the University of Notre Dame, held the positions of assistant general manager and wine director at the famed Monkey Bar in New York City. In this role she managed front of house employees, maintained a wine program of 275 selections and coordinated special events. Previously, she served as sommelier and dining room captain at restaurateur Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group concept, The Modern, for five years where she honed her skills in fine dining and incomparable service. She also developed and executed training programs in conjunction with restaurant management.
Through her international travels, Merlino brings exceptional wine knowledge to the downtown restaurant. Most notably, she expanded her expertise while working the harvest at Espelt Winery in Emporda on the Costa Brava and at Raventos i Blanc Winery in Sant Sadurni D’Anoia.
